Welcome back I hope you had a magical week. I have been out of school for the past 5 days because of the hurricane which is absolutely surreal. Luckily, I was able to evacuate back home to central Florida and away from St. Pete/the coast. Obviously there is a lot that goes into having a calm personal life. In regard to creating a work-life balance, here is my take.

I am a huge stickler for working during contract hours. I know a lot of teachers have different opinions on this (and that is OKAY!), but this is mine. I think working during your contract hours helps you remember that while teaching is a very important profession and we have a lot of weight on our shoulders to do so many teachers things, at the end of the day it is our job.

I love being a teacher, but I also love going for walks, hanging out with my friends, going to the movies, and laying in bed watching whatever show I’m binging. When I let my job creep into my late afternoons and evenings, is when I start to resent it. While I’m at work, I work and I do everything I can to do as much as I can. But whatever is not done in my contract hours, rolls over into tomorrow.

Being a good teacher does not mean giving every ounce of your time and resources. When I’m happy with myself, my outfit, and the classroom, is when I’m happiest inside the classroom!
