Election Unit YAY🎉

On a less spooky note, it is time to start one of my favorite things we do in my class: our ELECTION UNIT! This unit can take place over however much time you have, but I’m starting today and ending on Election Day.

We kick off by reading Grace for President, exploring the story and the qualities that make Grace an inspiring candidate. After discussing these traits, each student receives a ‘Top 10 Leader Qualities’ worksheet to pick their most valued characteristics in a leader. Then, everyone officially ‘registers to vote’ by creating their own voter ID card!

Next, we dive into Iggy Peck Architect, Ada Twist Scientist, and Rosie Revere Engineer. After each story, we discuss the standout qualities of each character and add them to a chart. Then, students fill out a nomination card to vote for their favorite character, helping us narrow it down to our top two candidates!

🧡On Election Day🧡 students enter the voting booth with their voter registration, and cast their ballot and of course receive their sticker! Finally students are also randomly assigned two states, and they vote in the electoral college. As each state votes, students color the state on their map to show which state voted for which candidate. Then we have a winner!

Your questions- ANSWERED

“How do you feel motivated to dress up every day for school”

I get this question ALL the time. When it comes to getting ready for school, I really and truly take like 20 minutes tops. I know what I’m wearing before I go to bed, then I wake up and get dressed! I obviously really enjoy choosing outfits so think it’s less about me feeling motivated and more about me having something fun I get to do for work!
